چکیده

This report describes a study of the fatigue behavior of fillet welded joints stressed perpendicular to the weld line. The study included an experimental phase in which the stiess-life and cracking behavior of load and nonload carrying fillet weld joints was determined. This experimental study concentrated on the fatigue behavior in the transition region between high and low cycle fatigue 3 5 (10 cycles to 10 cycles of load application). The second phase of the study was the determination of the fracture mechanics stress intensity factor for cracks at the weld toe or root of fillet welded joints. The finite element technique was used to determine the compliance of typical fillet welded joints. The results of this analysis showed that the stress intensity factor was a function of weld size, weld angle, plate thickness and weld penetration. Relationships to estimate the stress intensity factor were developed. The third phase of the study was the correlation of the experimental fatigue stress-life behavior of fillet welded joints with the predicted behavior using the concepts

Fatigue Life Prediction for Welded Joints with Known Initial Crack

The inspection of various structures often detects a fatigue cracks developed during long service life. These fatigue cracks significantly reduce remaining fatigue life and fatigue strength. Influence of the initial fatigue cracks size in non-load-carrying fillet-welded one-sided transverse attachment joints on the remaining fatigue life and fatigue strength is considered in this paper. A compu...

Predicting Low Cycle Fatigue Life through Simulation of Crack in Cover Plate Welded Beam to Column Connections

This paper presents a low cycle fatigue life curve by simulating a crack in a cover plate welded moment connection. Initiation of ductile fracture in steel is controlled by growth and coalescence of micro-voids. This research used a numerical method using finite element modeling and simulation of ductile crack initiation by a micromechanical model. Therefore, a finite element model of a cover p...

Fatigue Behaviour Study of Laser Hybrid Welded Eccentric Fillet Joints – Part I

Welded joints are a major component that is often responsible for causing a structure failure or for being the point at which fatigue cracking initiates and propagates. Despite tremendous research efforts, the understanding of fatigue behaviour is still limited, particularly for new techniques like laser hybrid welding. Beside a comprehensive state-of-the-art study, the paper presents a fatigue...

Fatigue Strength of Fillet-Welded Transverse Stiffeners with Undercuts

Presently, wrapping of the welds at the ends of stiffeners is not done to avoid the undercutting of the stiffener corners and the attendant weld repair. The fatigue performance of stiffeners with undercuts was evaluated in a factorial design fatigue experiment. Undercuts at the flange edge and filling of the stiffener cope with the fillet weld were also evaluated. The undercuts did not influenc...

Comparison of the stress intensity factor of load-carrying cruciform welded joints with different geometries

The investigation of fatigue strength needs an accurate solution and reliable values of the stress intensity factor (SIF). In this study, SIF of load-carrying cruciform welded joints has been evaluated using finite element method (FEM), and compared with the available solutions from literature. Load-carrying cruciform welded joints with isosceles triangles and non-isosceles triangle fillet weld...
